The 2018 China-UK High-Level Talent Forum at Cocoon Networks

This Saturday, August 11th, the 2018 China-UK High-level Talent Forum: Wuxi High-Tech District took place in our event space at Cocoon Networks London.

The event was aimed at introducing the Wuxi High-Tech District to our UK entrepreneurs and investors, and ensuring plenty of networking.


Delegates present included Qian Qian, Deputy director of Wuxi High-Tech District Management Committee and Deputy district chief of the High-Tech District GovernmentSun Hao, Deputy Director of WND Talent Work OfficeZhang Yi, Deputy Bureau Director of Wuxi High-Tech District Human Resource and Labour & Social Security Bureau; Que Yaoyao, Deputy Director of the Wuxi High-Tech District Promotion Centre for Technology Innovation; and Liu Ruixia, Project Manager of the Wuxi High-Tech District Promotion Centre for Technology Innovation. The event attracted around 50 companies and a great wealth of talent considering a move to China.




John Zai, the Founder & CEO of Cocoon Networks, Founder & Chairman of Tech Shanghai Advocates and London Tech Week Ambassador, expressed his warm welcome to all representatives and guests of the Wuxi Gaoxin District (Xinwu district) who have travelled from China to attend this flagship event, as well as the international audience.

Subsequently, Qian Qian, the Deputy Director of Wuxi High-Tech District Management Committee, briefly introduced the district and provided some insight into the investment environment and policies in Wuxi. He highly encouraged the UK companies to consider taking their innovations to China to scale up.

In the following remarks, leading figures of the High-Tech District introduced the current situation of technical innovation as well as the environment and policy for entrepreneurship and innovation in the district. In recent years, the High-Tech District has evolved into a highland of technical innovation, modern industry and outward focus and is pioneering in the whole province.



The Wuxi High-Tech District plays an important role as one of the first of its kind fostering independent innovation in the Jiangsu province. Many high-tech companies have settled here. It contains a professional tech campus and continuously optimizes the area through a “four-wheel driven strategy”, which coalesces state investment, overseas investment, national and public capital.

In order to actively respond to the central government’s call for entrepreneurship and national innovation, the High-Tech District is actively seeking to attract innovators from across the world. The district has attracted over 660 companies, startups and entrepreneurs from China and overseas, and has become a hot hub for outstanding talent, including several Nobel Prize winners. More than 260.000 innovators do business there.

To accelerate the internationalization process of the district and connect the best UK talent with Wuxi, the High-Tech District government signed an MOU to celebrate the strategic collective partnership with Cocoon Networks in promoting technical innovation and cooperation between China and UK.

The event culminated in a startup showcase, where each company gave a comprehensive introduction to their project and business plan. For the rest of the evening, our attendees networked over drinks and snacks in our event space.
